Presentation Information

Platform Presentation Guidelines

Only PowerPoint presentations will be allowed.

Residents should bring their PowerPoint presentation (in version 2003 - you MUST convert to lower if using PowerPoint 2007) on a USB flash-drive. No MAC computers ill be available so all presentations MUST be PC compatible.

Platform presentations are allocated 20 minute increments;however, each presentation is not allowed more than 15 minutes which includes time for review of the self-assessment slide and questions. The remaining 5 minutes allows the resident an opportunity to meet with the evaluator and for the changing of speakers.

Learning Assessment Questions for BOTH platform or posters

Since Continuing Education accreditation is granted to all presentations, each presentation is required to have an assessment of the learning that occurred. To accomplish this, each resident is required to write at least one Learning Assessment Question. You must include this question as part of your abstract submission and at the end of your presentation. If you are presenting a poster, you must include the question on the poster.

To write a learning assessment question, you must first decide on what you want the audience to learn from your presentation. This is best done by writing objectives for the presentation. A 10-12 minute presentation should have only 1-2 objectives. See here for a brief review of writing objectives. We have also included an example slide to assist you. Be sure to work with your preceptor when writing the learning assessment question. Additional information to assist you can found below.

How will my platform presentation be evaluated?

All members of the audience attending a platform session are encouraged to complete an evaluation form. Each platform session is also assigned an "official" evaluator. The role of the evaluator is to review the audience evaluations with the resident and provide additional feedback. The resident will meet with the evaluator briefly following the conclusion of their presentation.

Residents will be given copies completed evaluation forms at the conclusion of their presentation. Residents are STRONGLY encouraged to review these evaluation forms carefully and share them with their preceptor.

All residents are encouraged to review the evaluation form that will be used in advance of their presentations.

Poster Guidelines

Poster boards provided are 4 feet tall and 8 feet wide. It is recommended that your poster be sized slightly smaller than this (i.e., 3.5 feet x 7 feet).

Poster boards are Velcro and pushpin compatible. It is the residents responsibility to bring appropriate material for hanging their posters. Velcro and pushpins will not be provided by the conference. Additional information on preparing posters is available via the link below.

How will my poster presentation be evaluated?

All those viewing posters are encouraged to complete an evaluation form and provide feedback to the resident. In addition, each poster is assigned a formal evaluator. The evaluator will introduce themselves and discuss the poster with the resident and then complete a formal evaluation form.

All residents presenting a poster will receive copies of completed evaluation forms. Residents are encouraged to review these evaluation forms carefully and to share these documents with their preceptor for discussion.

A copy of the evaluation form can be found via the link below.

Additional Questions?

Please review the Resident FAQ section for additional information if needed.

Residents are ENCOURAGED to discuss any questions they may have with their preceptor or program director before contacting the 2010 Conference Program Chair.
